There's Serious Math Behind Us!

Just found a remarkable blog called the The Physics of Finance. It has a couple of interesting papers on there with the math behind it supplied. Considering my math/ hard science background is not as strong as I would like it, this blog is a godsend. Mark Buchanan and his peers, I think are on to something about people and how they behave.

Social Media, Clouds, Stochastic Processes and Why I Love Them

This blog post will probably certify my status as a nerd and no, I have never watch a full Star Trek episode (did grow up devouring Star Gate SG-1 episodes though...). The reason why I am claiming nerd status stems from my love of social media, stochastic processes and clouds.

A Stellar and Debt Free Education

In today's world the quality of your education truly depends on your effort and not the amount of money one can throw around. In the words of Thomas L. Friedman, the world is flat. Here are some excellent examples:
  • Got a hankering for a MBA from an elite school?
Well here are five taped Columbia Business School classes with Prof. Greenwald. Who is one heck of a value investor and professor.
  •  Think you got what it takes to hang with the real eggheads?
MIT is opening up and providing classes online for free. If you want to earn their certificate which at the moment is dubbed MITx you can try this spring. They have yet to announce the pricing for your attempt but they claim the cost to be "marginal."
  •  Think we're in middle of paradigm shift in communications and there has to be a better way to market than those annoying banner ads?
Become a certified Inbound Marketing Professional at Inbound Marketing University for free. The University is hosted by HubSpot which is a Cambridge, MA based marketing firm that is a huge proponent of this suspicion.
  •  Want to learn how to properly analyze your website traffic?
Google offers an online certificate called Google Analytics Individual Qualification. The course material is free and web base but the test for the designation I believe is a mere 50 dollars. I can imagine fellow web nerds asking each other what they got on their IQ test.
  • Are you a busy professional who loves finance?
There is the mother of all designations called the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA for short). It is a self study course with three levels to pass. The first test is full day exam with two 120 multiple choice sections. The second is an equally long exam with a mixture of short answers and I believe multiple choice questions. Then the last exam is only 12 questions long. I tried the first level. Good luck.
